USA: The Ministry of Finance confirms the lifting of sanctions in Syria announced by Trump

The United States Ministry of Finance confirmed on Friday the removal of sanctions imposed on Syria, as announced by President Donald Trump during his visit to Saudi Arabia last week. “The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are granting licenses to encourage new investment in Syria,” said Ministry of Finance Scott Besed. At the same time, the State Department grants exemption under Caesar’s “Caesar’s law” to protect civilians in Syria, “which will allow our foreign partners, our allies and the region to further utilize the potential (the country)”, added to the announcement. This 2020 law provided for strict sanctions on any entity or company working with the Assad regime, which was overthrown in December by a coalition of Islamist forces.
