USA: The number of homeless people has skyrocketed in recent years, according to an official report

The number of homeless people in the United States has skyrocketed in recent years, with very high property prices and low wages being only part of the problem, according to the ABC network, citing reports from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In its annual report to Congress, the ministry states that the number of homeless people temporarily housed in structures has dropped by 8% in 2021 compared to the previous year. It is estimated that more than 533,000 people were once homeless.

The phenomenon was on the rise even before the coronavirus pandemic, but “the significant financial instability brought by Covid-19” and reports from homelessness services “have heightened concern,” said MP Emanuel Cleaver.

It is characteristic that for the safety of all those who had sought temporary shelter, most of the structures reduced their occupancy at the suggestion of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for preventive measures against coronavirus.
