USA: The seventh attempt to elect Kevin McCarthy also failed – A Republican voted for Trump

The political impasse on USA continues and now the situation resembles a farce according to international media, since for the seventh time Kevin McCarthy was not elected, while one of the renegade Republican congressmen voted for Donald Trump as president House of Representatives.

THE McCarthy received 201 votes (he needed 218) and o Byron Donalds 19 votes. The 20th “rebel” of the Republicans, Matt Gage, voted for President of the House for… Donald Trump.

The US Constitution does not clearly state whether the Speaker of the House must also be a member of the House, but to date no non-parliamentarian has assumed this role.

Trump urged the rebels yesterday to support McCarthy, but they ignored him. Especially Goetz, who insists the California congressman can’t do anything to convince him.

Rage for the Apostates

The impasse over the election of the speaker of the House of Representatives continues, and earlier party members vented their anger that “a handful” of hard-line lawmakers are denying Republicans the opportunity to use the power they won in the midterm elections.

We have 20 people asking the 201 to surrender unconditionally. Well, I won’t give up“, said the MP Trent Kelly to reporters, after the sixth vote, late Wednesday night. At least 17 other colleagues expressed similar views, with John James accusing the “rebels” of wanting to control the rest “out of fear”.

The ultra-conservative “rebels” accuse Congress as a whole of serving the interests of lobbyists and the Washington establishment and they consider that their mission is to radically change the way the House operates. They did not see with a good eye the candidacy of Kevin McCarthy for the presidency of the House, although in the last days they declared themselves ready for negotiations.

Some, such as Ralph Normanworry that McCarthy will not be willing to follow the “scorched earth” tactics they are pursuing against Democratic President Joe Biden and the Democratic-controlled Senate. “Will he fight for us? Is he willing to shut down the government (ie cut off funding for federal agencies)? His history hasn’t shown that,” said Norman, who voted against McCarthy in every vote.

McCarthy gave in to some of their demands (giving up seats on critical committees, implementing a process that would make it easier to remove the speaker of the House) during overnight negotiations on Wednesday, but it did not appear to affect their vote.
