Two people have been killed and at least 207 homes destroyed by a wildfire raging uncontrollably in New Mexico, moving northeast of the community of Ruidoso, according to US authorities.
The bodies of a couple were found Wednesday in a mountain village in Sierra Blanca, according to a local official, who estimated that there were no missing persons. He claimed that the firefighters managed to prevent the spread of the forest fire to the most densely populated areas.
About 4,500 residents were warned by authorities to leave their homes, according to a report cited by the Albuquerque Journal. The fire, which broke out at noon on Tuesday, had reduced 23,000 acres to ashes by Thursday morning, according to the same source.
