The strengthening of the consumer climate in the USA is recorded in December, after according to the data announced by the University of Michigan, the consumer climate index is strengthening to 70.4 points from 67.4 in November.
This measure is higher than the estimate of economists who took part in a survey of the Wall Street Journal and expected an increase to 68.0 points. However, this is a big drop compared to December 2020, when the index was at 80.7 points.
The index for the current conditions increased to 74.6 points in December from 73.6 in November, while the index of expectations increased to 67.8 from 63.5 last month.
Household inflation expectations for the next 5 years remained stable at 3%, above pre-pandemic levels of 2.3%. 1-year inflation expectations also remained unchanged from 4.9% in November, the highest level since the summer of 2008.
