USA vote project to cut spending and avoid government stoppage

The United States House votes on Tuesday (11) a government financing bill to avoid a partial stoppage on Friday (14).

The mayor, Mike Johnson, revealed the plans on Saturday (8) to a provisional government spending cut measure until September 30. United States President Donald Trump supported the bill on Saturday.

The plan would increase defense spending by about $ 6 billion, while domestic spending would fall by about $ 13 billion, advisers of the Republican party leadership on Saturday.

They emphasized that there are no complements of party policy. However, the plan includes certain requests for White House financing, such as some new money for additional deportations by the Customs Immigration and Inspection Department (ICE).

What is known about the vote:

Johnson expressed confidence that the bill will be approved. The mayor said he plans to approve the provisional financing plan only with vows of the Republican Party, expressing confidence in the narrow group.

He also implied that it would be the fault of the Senate Democrats if the plan was blocked.

Chamber Democrat Hakeem Jeffries and his leadership team asked Democrats to oppose the plan.

In a note sent to the group and obtained by CNN the Democratic leadership described the Republican Party financing plan as a “blank check for Elon Musk and President Trump continues his destruction campaign.”

Possible votes and opposition:

A Republican of the House, Deputy Thomas Massie, opposes the bill, which means that Johnson cannot lose another vote of the group if he follows the party lines and all members are present and voting.

Others are undecided, including republican deputy Tim Burchett, who said CNN which is still evaluating whether to support it.

Republican deputy Tony Gonzales previously said that he would oppose any provisional bill, but that was before Trump asked all Republicans to support him.

So far, no House Democrat said publicly that he plans to support the bill.

Senate awaits behind the scenes

Republican Senator Rand Paul must probably oppose the bill. At least eight democratic votes would be necessary to overcome an obstruction.

The Senate Democratic Leaders have not yet said whether they will press their members to block it.

On Monday, Democratic Senator Mark Kelly from Arizona said that a government stoppage could give Trump-and to the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge)-the most margin of maneuver to cut federal departments.

But Kelly did not say whether he would vote for the Republican bill to keep the government open until September.

Other reactions:

Mayor Muriel Bowser warned at a news conference that Washington, DC, would have to cut $ 1.1 billion from her approved budget if the bill passed.

These cuts would take away the funding from public safety, education and economic growth priorities, she added.

DC city administrator Kevin Donahue said these cuts would result in an “immediate freezing of hiring” followed by layoffs because 85% of the district budget is allocated to employees.
