The weekly claims for unemployment benefits published by the US Department of Labor decreased by 13,000 in the week of September 1, standing at 216,000 vs. 229,000 previously (number revised up from 228,000). The result improves market expectations, which had expected a rise to 234,000.
This is the lowest number of requests seen in almost seven months, from the week of February 10, specifically. The gauge’s four-week average is down to 229,250 from 237,500 previously.
The continued jobless claims also declined, falling to 1,679,000 in the week of August 25, from 1,719,000 the previous week.
USD reaction
He Dollar Index (DXY) has jumped higher on the release, rising to 105.14, its highest price in six months, specifically since March 10. At time of writing, the greenback is trading above 105.13, gaining 0.29% on the day.
