The weekly unemployment benefit claims United States have met expectations and have increased by 4,000 in the week of December 2, rising to 230,000 from 226,000 previously (number revised up from 225,000).
The continued unemployment claims Thanksgiving week, meanwhile, rose by 62,000 to 1,671,000 from 1,609,000, worsening the forecast decline to 1,575,000. The figure is the highest recorded in almost 11 months, specifically since the week of January 14, 2022.
The 4-week moving average was 230,000, which is an increase of 1,000 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 250, from 228,750 to 229,000.
EUR/USD Reaction
EUR/USD has reacted to the data with a rebound of almost 20 pips that has led it to test a new daily high at 1.0532. At time of writing, the pair is trading above 1.0516, gaining 0.07% daily.
