The Weekly claims for unemployment benefits in the United States rose by 12,000 during the week of December 22, standing in 218,000 from the previous 206,000, its highest level in three weeks. The figure worsens market expectations, since an increase to 210,000 was expected. In addition, the data from the previous week has been revised upwards, from 205,000 to 206,000, according to the US Department of Labor.
The four-week average has decreased by 250 requests, standing at 212,000 compared to the previous 212,250.
The continued unemployment claims have risen by 14,000 in the week of December 15, rising to 1,875,000 from 1,861,000, meeting experts' forecasts.
Dollar reaction
The Dollar Index (DXY) has barely moved following the data, currently trading around 100.77, losing 0.17% daily. In the European morning, the greenback fell to 100.61, its lowest level in five months.
