USA: Weekly unemployment claims drop to 194,000 the week of February 10, bettering the 200,000 expected

The weekly claims for unemployment benefits US prices decreased by 1,000 in the week ending February 10, to 194,000 from 195,000 previously (revised lower from 196,000). The result improves market expectations, which expected a rise to 200,000.

The four-week median of jobless claims has risen to 189,500 from 189,000.

The continued jobless claims increased by 16,000 in the week of February 3, standing at 1,696,000 after registering 1,680,000 the previous week. The figure slightly worsens expectations of 1,695,000 and places the indicator at its highest level since the week of December 16.

The US Dollar Index has reacted to the data with a rally of around 15 pips that has lifted the DXY to its highest level on the day at 103.92. At time of writing, the greenback is trading above 103.87, gaining a slight 0.02% daily.
