Russia’s reliance on Iranian-made drones to attack targets in Ukraine exposes the country’s political and military bankruptcy, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday.
“Keep in mind that the very fact that Russia has sought help from Iran is an admission by the Kremlin that it is militarily and politically bankrupt,” he said.
Ukraine says Russia’s latest attacks on infrastructure have been based on “kamikaze” Shahed-136 drones, made in Iran.
The Middle Eastern country denies supplying unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia – which the United States says is a lie. The Kremlin said Tuesday that it had no information on whether or not Iranian “kamikaze” drones were used.
“For decades, they spent billions of dollars on their own military industrial complex. And in the end, they bowed to Tehran to guarantee very simple drones and missiles,” added the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky, who points out that the most recent attacks left 30% of Ukraine’s power plants damaged, said the use of the weapons might raise hopes and illusions among Russian leaders, but it still wouldn’t help.
“This will simply show the world once again that Russia is heading for defeat and is trying to drag yet another of its accomplices into this terror,” he warned.
