Note that this is not the first time that users pay huge fees for transferring bitcoins. On January 16, 2024, an unknown counterparty spent approximately $173,000 to transfer 2.9 BTC.
In September 2023, an unknown person paid 19.8 BTC (about $510,000 at that time) to transfer 0.074 BTC.
In November, the counterparty sent 139.4 BTC to another address, and the transaction fee was 83.65 BTC or $3.14 million. However, then the team of the AntPool mining pool stated that they would return the entire amount as soon as they received confirmation from the owner.
Similar incidents also happened with the Ethereum coin. On February 13, 2024, the owner of Ethereum sent 10 ETH to another address. The fee for this transaction was 42.88 ETH, which at that time was valued at $113,497.
