Users of Chinese TVs Xiaomi and Redmi are tired of the dominance of advertising: the company promises to find the optimal balance

Xiaomi TVs are very popular all over the world, and in China they have been the best-selling ones in recent years. Xiaomi Mi TV and Redmi TV in China run MIUI for TV based on Android, while versions for global markets run on Android TV.

The big difference between Chinese and global TVs is that Xiaomi does not show ads in global markets. On the other hand, in China, the company’s TVs with MIUI for TV show a lot of ads from the very moment they turn on. Besides download ads, MIUI for TV also shows other types of ads such as banners and pop-ups. This makes it uncomfortable to navigate the user interface.

Recently, in the course of communication with the developers of Xiaomi TVs, users asked to remove ads from their TVs. To which Xiaomi executives simply replied that they are working hard to balance advertising and user experience as much as possible.

In a statement, Xiaomi clearly states that the company has no plans to remove ads from its TVs in China. Hopefully, the company will not transfer ads to TVs intended for global markets.

Xiaomi recently stated: “MIUI is better than other interfaces.” Some called this Xiaomi post as a bad joke, others started listing the problems they were or are currently experiencing while using MIUI.
