Users Of The Nifty Gateway NFT Platform Become Victims Of Scammers

The popular collectible token trading platform (NFT) Nifty Gateway reported that some users experienced “account hijacking”, theft and purchase of NFTs from a credit card without their knowledge.

According to a statement Nifty Gateway, a popular market for non-exchangeable tokens, a small group of platform users faced “account hijacking”. The victims claimed that either NFTs were stolen from them, or the NFTs were purchased using credit card details and then stolen.

One user approvesthat lost more than $ 150,000 NFT. Another user declaresthat someone used his credit card details to purchase NFTs worth over $ 10,000, and his previously purchased NFTs were stolen. In a statement, Nifty Gateway notes:

“We are continuing to analyze the situation, but our initial assessment indicates that the number of users experiencing problems is small, none of the affected accounts had two-factor authentication enabled, and access was obtained using valid credentials.”

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is currently not required on Nifty Gateway, but this may change. Nifty Gateway co-founder Griffin Cock Foster wrote on the social network Twitter:

“Several users were targeted by cybercriminals, their passwords were compromised. Make sure you have 2FA enabled to prevent similar situations in the future. We are actively exploring the possibility of introducing mandatory two-factor authentication for everyone who made a purchase. ”

Note that the popularity of NFT has skyrocketed in recent months. A painting by artist Beeple was recently sold as an NFT token for $ 69.3 million.
