A fundraising campaign for the Epomaker AK84S 84-key wireless mechanical keyboards has been organized on Kickstarter. A feature of this input device, primarily addressed to users of computers with macOS, is the ability to customize within a very wide range. The user can program the functions of the keys, replace the caps and switches.
The keyboard makers offer a set of patented silicone keycaps. It is said to be the world’s first keycaps made from textured silicone. They provide a comfortable typing feel. In addition, these caps are easy to replace without the use of any tools.
As already mentioned, the switches are replaced. Developers offer Gateron switches and new patented Epomaker Chocolate switches. The latter are characterized by a very low actuation force of the switches – 5 g. Chocolate switches are available in several varieties with different tactile response.
In addition, the keyboard is offered in several design options, including an aluminum frame option, an all-aluminum option, and an acrylic option.
The keyboard can be connected using a USB-C cable or Bluetooth 5.1 interface. This ensures compatibility not only with PCs, but also with mobile devices. Simultaneous connection to three devices is possible.

At the time of writing, over $ 45,000 had been raised. Since the goal was to raise $ 10,000, the campaign can be considered a success. It is too early to say what the final amount will be – fundraising will continue for another 34 days. The minimum deposit required to qualify for a keyboard with optical switches is $ 69, and a mechanical one is $ 89. The authors of the project promise to start shipping the devices in July this year.
