When Usher appeared as a special guest of black Eyed Peas the main attraction of Super Bowl XLV in 2011, he demonstrated and, years later, became the highlight of the halftime show.
During Apple's press conference last Tuesday (6), Usher recalled “how incredible it was to be in front of so many people and feel that energy”.
“It made me really passionate about eventually getting this moment that I've been preparing for,” the singer said. “But it was something fueled by me being able to be part of that moment with the Black Eyed Peas.”
Now, Usher will take the stage to make his dream come true on Sunday (11). The singer has just completed his successful residency in Las Vegas , where this year's Super Bowl will be played. He also just released a new album.
Not bad for a singer who is now independent and does things his own way. “This is just the beginning, as I released this album as an independent artist,” he said. “I will be, to this date, the only independent artist to have performed at the Super Bowl halftime show. So this is the beginning. It’s a new beginning for me.”
Apple and the NFL praised the artist's performance “30 years of training” given that the 45-year-old singer started as a teenager in the music industry.
“It was a challenge to squeeze 30 years into 13 minutes,” Usher said of planning his presentation. According to him, being in Las Vegas helped inspire him.
“You know, sometimes affirmations and words of reassurance are not enough. You have to like it and work at it.” said the singer. “But it’s great that Jay-Z (who is producing the halftime show) and the Super Bowl want me to be there to entertain the world.”
“Las Vegas has been wonderful for me. Having 100 sold out shows at a residency and having the Super Bowl,” she added. “It really gave my time here in Las Vegas an incredible boost.”
This year's Super Bowl pregame performers, Post Malone , Andra Day It is Reba McEntire also participated in the press conference.
The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in the game that will be played in Las Vegas, at Allegiant Stadium, this coming Sunday.
