Using a suitable internal SSD in the PlayStation 5 does not degrade performance or load times in games

Using a fast add-on SSD in the PlayStation 5 seems to have little or no effect on game load times. This was written by a representative of the studio Insomniac Games, responsible for the exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

According to him, Insomniac has already tested various SSDs. When used with Sony-compliant drives, the results are almost indistinguishable from those of the native PlayStation 5 SSD.

Insomniac also tested PCIe 4.0 SSDs that did not meet Sony’s recommendations. As a result, loading times increased by about 15%, and then only in certain places. This is also a good result, but here we do not know the details about these drives, so it is hardly worth counting on the use of the most budget ones.

Recall that users of the beta version of the PS5 firmware can already use an additional drive, and for the rest, this opportunity will appear with the release of the final version of the software.
