USP announces new dean and vice dean for the next four years

The University of São Paulo (USP) announced the new dean and vice dean this Wednesday (8), at a press conference held at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, in São Paulo (SP). Professors Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior and Maria Arminda do Nascimento Arruda will assume command of the institution on January 25, 2022, with a four-year term.

São Paulo Governor João Doria and State Secretary for Economic Development Patrícia Ellen participated in the nomination.

“We are proposing a new pact with society, increasing our collaboration with both the public and private sectors, resulting in greater impact from our actions to improve the living conditions of Brazilians. We will need to fight together scientific denial and premeditated misinformation, but we will face the challenges with serenity and confidence”, said the new dean during the press conference.

Maria Arminda emphasized that “inclusion is not averse to science. On the contrary, they emulate the production of science. This commitment that we affirm today is to make our university bigger and more important”. For the new vice-rector, the University needs, more and more, to become an institution with public and social responsibility.

The ticket formed by Carlotti and Maria Arminda was the most voted in the election held on November 25, with 1,156 votes, according to USP. In all, 2,002 people voted in the rectory elections. The electoral college was formed by different sectors of the university.

USP was founded in 1934, and this will be the 28th rectory administration in the university’s history.
