USP issues recommendations after increase in Covid-19 cases and air pollution in SP

The University of São Paulo (USP) issued an ordinance guiding students and employees on the need to update their vaccination against Covid-19 and adopt new precautions amid the increase in cases of the disease and air pollution in the state.

The Superintendent of Health at the University of São Paulo (USP), Prof. Dr. Paulo Andrade Lotufo, published the ordinance on Wednesday (11) with guidelines for the academic community, such as use of a mask in case of any respiratory condition.

USP recommends that students, employees and their families update their Covid-19 vaccination at Basic Health Units (UBS) in their municipalities.

THE CNN Prof. Lotufo highlighted that, although there is no significant increase in cases among USP members, there is concern about the drop in the vaccination rate, which continues to be fundamental for controlling the disease.

Among the major cities in the world, São Paulo had the most polluted air on the planet for two days this week according to monitoring by the IQAir agency.

The levels of air pollutants are expected to remain high at least until this Sunday (15), with the arrival of a cold front that could alleviate the dry weather.

In the text, Lotufo recommends that the academic community reduce the time spent outdoors and in external physical activities. The professor also recommends the use of “quality masks (N95 and others) during exercise in open spaces.
