USP medical student is accused of embezzling almost R$ 1 million from the graduation commission

A university student at the USP Faculty of Medicine (FMUSP) is accused by her classmates of having embezzled almost R$ 1 million that would have been used to finance the graduation party of the course. The case is investigated by the police.

wanted by CNN the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo (SSP-SP) reported that the Civil Police are investigating a 25-year-old woman for the crime of embezzlement.

The suspect is FMUSP student Alicia Dudy Muller Veiga, who denies all accusations and says that everything happened with the knowledge of the graduation committee.

According to the police, the alleged coup took place on November 25 last year, in the neighborhood of Mirandópolis, in the south zone of São Paulo.

“One of the victims, a 25-year-old man, attended the police station earlier this Tuesday night (10) and told the police that the suspect would have appropriated the approximate amount of R$ 920,000 that would be used for graduation. of the students of the USP medical course”, I inform the SSP in a note.

Still according to the victim’s report to the police, the students only discovered the embezzlement of money earlier this year, on January 6, when the suspect herself told about the transfer of money in a WhatsApp group.

The case was registered in the capital of São Paulo at the 14th Police District of the Civil Police, in the neighborhood of Pinheiros, and forwarded to the 16th Police District, in Vila Clementino.

In a note sent to CNN the FMUSP advisory reported that the faculty board was informed that the graduation committee – “and, therefore, the students who adhered to the graduation of the 106th Class” – were victims of fraud after raising funds for the organization of the planned graduation party to the end of 2023.

“The facts are being investigated, seeking to identify those responsible for the fraud and the Board is supporting the orientation of the students involved”, said FMUSP.

THE CNN contacted representatives of FMUSP university entities – Centro Acadêmico and Atlética – to comment on the case.

The Oswaldo Cruz Academic Center (CAOC) chose not to comment on the case and reported that it does not get involved with graduation committees. There was no return on the part of Atlética.

parallel investigation

THE CNN obtained a police investigation that shows that the same student suspected of embezzling graduation money is the target of another police investigation for money laundering and embezzlement in a lottery shop in São Paulo. It is not possible to say that this case is related to the denunciations of FMUSP students.

According to the SSP-SP, the alleged crime took place on July 12 of last year, in a lottery inside a Pão de Açúcar – Ricardo Jafet supermarket, in the Vila Mariana neighborhood, in the capital of São Paulo.

A person representing the lottery company attended the Criminal Investigations Division (DEIC) of São Bernardo do Campo and reported that Alicia Muller “had been placing high-value bets on a daily basis, always paid through transfer via pix”.

“However, on July 12, 2022, the woman would have left a loss of BRL 192,908.47, after scheduling the amount via pix, without actually paying for the bets she made”, reported the SSP-SP in a note.

The case was registered as money laundering and embezzlement at the DEIC in São Bernardo do Campo.

THE CNN contacted the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) asking if the case is already in court, but there was no response.

“Commission had access to information”, says suspect to CNN

THE CNN contacted Alicia Muller via WhatsApp to respond to the accusations.

She sent the following statement: “I deny all accusations and inform that the graduation committee had access to the information on the withdrawal of money.”
