USP student accused of embezzling graduation money becomes defendant in fraud case

Student Alicia Dudy Muller Veiga, 25 years old, who is already responsible for the embezzlement of almost R$1 million in funds from the graduation committee of a Medicine class at the University of São Paulo (USP), became a defendant for the crime of embezzlement. The information was confirmed this Friday morning (26) by the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP).

In November last year, the student was charged by the São Paulo Public Ministry (MPSP) for the crime of embezzlement in November last year. The information was confirmed this Friday morning (26) by the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP).

The MPSP's complaint

The complaint presented by the Public Ministry was forwarded to the 32nd Criminal Court, at the Central Criminal Court of Barra Funda.

During the investigations, the Civil Police pointed out that Alicia had placed a bet of R$891,000 in a lottery, but only paid R$891.53 on Pix, an amount a thousand times less than what was actually owed. In July 2022, the student tried to play a set of Lotofácil games at a lottery in the south of São Paulo, which totaled R$891.53, in which she presented a transfer schedule via Pix as proof of payment.

The establishment's employees began to record the games and hand over the receipts to the bettor, but the manager became suspicious of the situation and questioned the student about when the money would arrive. At that moment, according to the police, the student tried to deceive the lottery employees by showing a transfer receipt worth R$891.53, but the manager asked that the bets be stopped.

According to the civil police, Alicia earned a total of R$326,000 in Lotofácil prizes after playing dozens of high-value games.

At the time, the CNN She sought contact with Alice's defense, who claimed to be waiting for the opportunity to give her version and clarify everything. “The accused immediately made herself available to the police authorities, and has collaborated with the investigation of the truth, the elucidation of the facts, and the consequent search for justice”, said the note.

Remember the case of embezzlement of graduation money

Student Alicia Dudy Muller Veiga is also accused of embezzling almost R$1 million from her class's graduation fund on the USP Medicine course. At the time, members of the graduation committee stated that the money was raised over four years.

Alicia was the president of the commission and, at the end of 2021, she asked for the amount collected to be transferred to her personal account, with the justification that the contracted company was not providing a good service and decided to invest the resources with a brokerage, from whom he would later have suffered a blow. However, she would not have requested approval from the other members of the commission to carry out this transfer.

The Police and the MPSP did not believe her version. The young woman was reported for embezzlement eight times. The São Paulo Court accepted and the student became a defendant in March this year in the case of the graduation committee's deviation.
