USP student accused of graduation scam becomes defendant for embezzlement

The São Paulo Court accepted a complaint against student Alicia Muller Veiga, aged 25, for embezzlement against a Lottery in the south of São Paulo. The judge of the 32nd Criminal Court, at the Central Criminal Court of Barra Funda, received a complaint from the Public Ministry of São Paulo and summoned the student. The complaint was accepted on November 29th. The process takes place in secret.

According to a Civil Police investigation, Alicia Muller made a bet of R$891,000 in July 2022. When she went to pay, she scheduled a pix of just R$891.53, an amount a thousand times less than the amount due.

The establishment’s employees recorded part of the games and handed over some receipts, but the manager became suspicious of the situation and stopped issuing bets, even though the student presented proof of transfer.

According to the Civil Police, Alicia Muller earned around R$326,000 in Lotofácil prizes after playing dozens of high-value games.

The student is already responsible for the crime of misappropriation for the diversion of almost R$1 million in funds from the class graduation committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo.

Wanted by CNN , Alicia Muller’s defense said that as soon as the student is cited, the prior defense will be presented. Afterwards, the defense will study the records and outline the defense.

Lottery’s defense said it will not comment on the matter.
