According to a civil police investigation, Alicia placed a bet of R$891,000 in a lottery, but paid only R$891.53 on Pix, an amount a thousand times less than what was actually owed.
In July 2022, Alicia tried to play a set of Lotofácil games at a lottery in the south of São Paulo, for a total value of R$891.53.
To do this, you presented a transfer schedule via Pix as proof of payment. The establishment’s employees then began to record the games and hand over the receipts to the bettor, but the manager became suspicious of the situation and questioned the student about when the money would arrive.
According to the police, the medical student tried to “deceive” the lottery employees by showing a transfer receipt worth R$891.53, but the manager asked that the bets be stopped.
According to the civil police, Alicia earned a total of R$326,000 in Lotofácil prizes after playing dozens of high-value games.
The complaint presented by the Public Ministry was forwarded to the 32nd Criminal Court, at the Central Criminal Court of Barra Funda.
A CNN the student’s defense said they were “waiting for the opportunity to give Alicia’s version and clarify everything.”
Remember the case
Alicia is accused of embezzling almost R$1 million from her class’ graduation fund on the USP Medicine course. According to members of the graduation committee, money for graduation was raised for four years.
At the end of 2021, Alicia, who was president of the committee, requested the transfer of the amounts to her personal account without the approval of other students who were members of the group.
To her colleagues, Alicia declared that she withdrew the money from the account because the contracted company was not providing a good service, and decided to invest the funds with a broker, from whom she would later have suffered a scam.
The Police and the MPSP did not believe her version. The young woman was reported for embezzlement eight times. The São Paulo Court accepted and the student became a defendant in March this year in the case of the graduation committee’s deviation.
