The town of Uvalde, Texas, has reached a $2 million settlement with most of the families of the children killed in 2022 when a gunman opened fire inside the town's elementary school. In that settlement, “the city agreed to pay the $2 million security deposit, which is all there was,” John Koskoff, the attorney representing the families, said at a news conference today. Nineteen children and two teachers were killed on May 4, 2022, when a gunman entered Robb Elementary School and barricaded himself inside the classrooms, where dozens of young students were studying at the time. A Justice Department investigation into the case found that local police ignored standard practice by not immediately confronting the gunman. Instead, the police waited outside the school hall for more than an hour, despite the children's pleas for help. Source: RES
