UVD Robots, a Danish UV disinfection robot, has entered into a global partnership with OCC Commercial Consulting to tackle COVID-19 and high-risk pathogens in retail and food service environments.
According to UVD Robots, the average consumer spends about 60 hours a year buying groceries. During this time, it comes into contact with shopping carts, refrigerator doors and goods – an environment that can contain various colonies of microbes, including pathogenic ones. One study found that a grocery store trolley has 361 times more bacteria than a bathroom doorknob, and 75% of them are considered harmful to humans, and refrigerator doors can have 1,235 times more bacteria than a mobile phone.

Previously, UVD Robots has already received orders for 100 and 200 robots from the European Commission. The OCC partnership paves the way for UVD Robots to autonomously sanitize warehouses, including shelves, aisles and checkout areas, and to comprehensively prevent infections with UV-C germicidal lighting equipment. The robot allegedly cleans rooms of viruses and bacteria on surfaces and in the air, killing more than 99.99% of microorganisms, including SARS-CoV 2 (coronaviruses) and E. Coli, and providing a safe environment for staff and customers.
Based on pre-drawn schedules and mapped routes, robots can decontaminate about 700 m in an hour2providing fast disinfection of typical retail outlets without the need for personnel to operate the robot. Disinfection of supermarkets with UV-C lamps is not a new concept, however, existing solutions, including stationary disinfection systems, ceiling lamps and air purifiers, do not provide complete disinfection covering shaded and remote areas, while robots can easily cope with them.
Sold in over 60 countries worldwide, UVD Robots are the most popular autonomous disinfection robots in the world. Originally developed to fight infections in hospitals, they are now also used in educational institutions, airports, train stations, hotels, sports complexes, shopping malls and offices, and even on board cruise ships. The global partnership agreement with OCC Commercial Consulting focuses on the food and beverage retail sector. OCC Commercial Consulting will initially focus on deploying UVD Robots in Germany, but plans to expand its operations to other European countries.
