V. Kikilias: Cruise visitors add value to the local economy and society

Strong development of the Greek cruise for 2022 is shown by all the data available to the Ministry of Tourism and industry. It is indicative that, according to the data of the Ministry of Tourism, the projected increase of the cruise is 118% for the port of Piraeus and 189% for the port of Thessaloniki, while these ports will be home ports in a percentage that exceeds 50% of cruise ships that will approach them.

It is worth emphasizing that this year, in addition to the world-famous destinations (Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, Heraklion), the goal of the Minister of Tourism in all his contacts with agencies and companies in the industry was to begin to find a place on the cruise map smaller destinations, island and continental.

This strategy seems to work, as this year cruise destinations such as Kavala, Parga, Gythio, Pylos, Spetses, Folegandros, Ios, Skiathos, Naxos, Samos, Andros, Kalymnos and many others.

The issue of the cruise is mentioned in a statement in the newspaper Real News, the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias.

“We support cruise in our country from the very beginning, and strengthen our ports as home port destinations. Cruise visitors add value to the local economy and society. From shops and restaurants, to museums and archeological sites. “Think about how many professions are employed when a cruise ship arrives,” the minister points out.

He points out that according to a survey by the International Association of Cruise Companies (CLIA), “6 out of 10 cruise visitors return to the city where they first started the cruise to vacation again” and notes:

“Together with the institutions, we invest in the cruise, upgrading the services, highlighting new destinations, always guided by sustainable tourism development.”
