The first steps for the reopening of the site of the Zakynthos Shipwreck were recorded in the meeting of the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias with the members of the Committee for Standard Tourism Utilization and Protection of the Zakynthos Shipwreck, which took place today at the Ministry of Tourism.
Mr. Kikilias set the objectives of ensuring the safe access and stay of the visitors, the maintenance and avoidance of the risk of collapse of the shipwreck and the protection of the geomorphological environment, while he asked the members of the Committee and the bodies representing them to submit for the solution of the chronic problem of the Shipwreck, as well as relevant reports or studies that have been done.
“Zakynthos Shipwreck is the second most photographed destination in Greece. Our duty, State and local agencies, is to ensure access to the area, based on the safety of residents and visitors, to make the Shipwreck a sustainable tourist product of very high quality.” The Minister of Tourism pointed out, adding that the Commission will overcome the bureaucracy and will decide on the necessary projects with fast-track procedures, while taking all necessary provisions for the observance of legality and the protection of the environment.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development Olympia Anastassopoulou and the members of the Committee: the general director of Tourism Policy of the Ministry of Tourism and coordinator of the Committee Panagiota Dionysopoulou, the governor of Ionian Islands Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou, the municipal councilor supervisor of the Zakynthos Chamber Nikolaos Tsipiras, the vice-president of the Lagan Hoteliers Association Georgios Tsourounakis and the head of the Ilia Real Estate Service Konstantina Sakellariou.
