V. Kikilias proposes support mechanism for dealing with the crisis to the EU Council of Tourism Ministers

The Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, participated in the EU Council of Ministers of Tourism, organized by the French Presidency in the city of Dijon. In his speech, Mr. Kikilias referred to the fact that the European Union can deal with the humanitarian crisis faster and more effectively, taking advantage of the lessons learned during the pandemic crisis.

The Minister of Tourism stressed the need to create a European mechanism to deal with the crisis and its impact on tourism, but also the possibility of supporting the problems faced by the industry, due to rising energy costs.

The proposal of the Minister of Tourism was accepted by his counterparts in Spain and Italy and they called on the EU. to move in that direction. Mr. Kikilias also referred to the possibility of employment of Ukrainian refugees in the tourism sector, for those who will eventually remain for a long time in EU member states.
