V. Kikilias: The confirmed arrivals in Thessaloniki for 2022 are more than three times

The almost three times confirmed arrivals in Thessaloniki for 2022, justify our strategy for the cruise, emphasizes today in a statement the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias.

The following is the statement of the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias:

“Our strategic goal at the Ministry of Tourism is a sustainable model for the development of cruise in Greece. Especially for Thessaloniki, as I had already announced by the TIF, the goal is to make the city port a home port and hub for cruise tourism.

This means that the port of Thessaloniki will be a port for starting and ending a cruise, with the possibility of boarding and / or disembarking passengers, something that will stimulate the local economy, with a significant impact on the hotel industry, but also on trade, health stores, processing, etc., generating income for the city and its inhabitants.

The combination of the new international airport and the port of Thessaloniki, changes the map in cruise tourism. The benefits of this increase will not only be the great development impetus in the city itself, but also the strengthening of the tourist dynamics of Macedonia and Northern Greece, offering a tourist experience that will integrate all forms of tourism.

Just yesterday, ΟΛΘ Α.Ε. announced that the confirmed cruise ship arrivals in Thessaloniki for 2022 are already almost tripled, as from 17 this year, they are at least 49 for next year (189% increase) and in fact by 10 different cruise companies and 12 different cruise ships.

The itineraries are scheduled to start on March 6, 2022, earlier than ever and in fact, 60% of the itineraries of 2022 will be of the “home port” type, something that will continue at an increased rate in 2023.

These elements justify the strategy of the Ministry of Tourism, fill us with optimism and responsibility and are a great opportunity for our Thessaloniki.

With an organized plan, hard work and cooperation with the institutions of the city, we will use this opportunity for the benefit of our society and economy “.
