Vacations at sea: Disney Cruise celebrates 25 years with surprises and special attractions

Who doesn’t want Mickey to host a super trip? It’s the dream of children and a lot of grown-ups too, isn’t it? I write on board disney dream a Disney cruise that kicks off the celebrations of 25 years of the group’s maritime activities.

It’s my third time in one disney cruise and, I assure you, the magic never ends. Quite the contrary, every time I get on a ship like this I am more impressed with the show of excellence, attention and care for the smallest details.

If I am impacted, can you imagine the children? It’s exciting to see the excitement and eyes shining at each show, at each encounter with the characters, at each “magic” game.

The reason for my trip this time is even more special, after all, it’s the Disney Cruise Silver Wedding and I came to check out all the surprises and special attractions that Mickey’s gang has prepared to celebrate this very important milestone.

During the American summer of 2023 (May to September), the celebration of Silver Anniversary at Sea will take place on the five Disney Cruise Line ships, which will sail to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe and Alaska and, on all of them, guests will find new attractions, exclusive decorations, in addition to differentiated products and other delicious surprises, all involved in the magical spirit that is the signature of the brand.

Among some examples of the celebration are the new sparkling and colorful costumes of Captain Minnie Mouse and Captain Mickey Mouse to mark the occasion – and which can only be seen on board -; as well as an exclusive song for the 25th anniversary; gastronomy items, such as desserts, cocktails and other dishes that appear “decorated” in the theme; and even a special line of products dedicated to the celebrations with a new color that will drive any lover and collector of Disney products crazy.

In 2019, aboard the Disney Magic ship, I wrote an article where I told about my first experience on a group vessel and the reasons why you would want to go on a Disney cruise.

This time I’m on disney dream, a vessel with an impressive 130,000 tons, with 14 decks, 1,250 cabins, 14 floors and that can accommodate 4,000 people. Is it all Disney magic and excellence in one grand hotel – or is it perfect, floating mini-city?

There is no shortage of entertainment for all ages and the best part: the traveler has no worries. The Disney Dream has Broadway-style shows; there’s AquaDuck, a 233-meter-long water roller coaster; has an enchanting and exclusive live performance of Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast”, in addition to other theatrical shows; cinema session at the Walt Disney Theater as well as on the family poolside deck and at the Buena Vista Theater, a cinema with luxurious seating that shows first-hand movies and 3D digital films.

There is also an interactive show with Jack Sparrow which is very successful. The show ends in a fireworks display choreographed to the dramatic soundtrack of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

Like all Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream has separate pools for children, families and adults, as well as a miniature golf course and sports simulators.

What’s nice is that there are monitors who speak Portuguese, which brings a lot of peace of mind to us parents when it’s time to leave our little ones playing at Disney’s Oceaneer Club or Disney’s Oceaneer Lab (both for children aged 3 to 12 years).

For babies and children up to 3 years old, there is It’s a Small World Nursery, where they are safely cared for by trained Disney professionals, and for teenagers, Vibe (from 14 to 17 years old) and Edge (from 11 to 14 years old) they are super ‘cool’ spaces for meetings with music, videogames, among other activities.

For those little ones who love a makeover, the ship offers too! At Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, aspiring young princesses and knights become Disney royalty with the help of a fairy godmother-in-training. My kids love it!

At the luxurious Senses Spa & Salon, adults 18 years and older can enjoy spa treatments, massages, manicures and pedicures, and a rainforest-themed aromatherapy sauna. The fitness center is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and offers personal training sessions and classes in yoga, pilates, aerobics and more.

When I say there’s no “perrengue” around here, it’s real. A Disney Cruise app makes life easier for travelers. Through it, it is possible to schedule all activities on board and in the ports where you will disembark; check out all the daily and intense schedule of the ship; and have access to your agenda.

In addition, an intelligent reservation system for restaurants allows all travelers to get to know all the gastronomic options at least once. You just choose the meal time and this super booking system ensures you visit every house.

Dining aboard the Disney Dream

The three family-themed restaurants onboard the ship offer hands-on experiences as guests move through the restaurants each night accompanied by the same service team, offering a variety of menu options and friendly, personalized service.

The Royal Palace, an exquisite dining room fit for a king and queen; Enchanted Garden, inspired by the gardens of Versailles; and Animator’s Palate, a Disney Cruise Line exclusive restaurant, offer dining with a magical Disney flair.

Adults get two exclusive restaurants: Palo, specializing in modern Italian cuisine, and Remy, with French-inspired cuisine – both with more formal environments and views of the ocean and which, on days when we are only at sea, offer also brunch.

Other exclusive places for the grown-ups are also worth it, such as Pink: Wine and Champagne Bar, a bar with an atmosphere inspired by the French art nouveau style that serves cocktails, wines and, of course, champagne. It also has a pub, a club, places to sit and chat where children are not allowed. Anyway, in fact they care about pleasing the whole family.

The Disney Dream sails with a variety of itineraries, including making its first Transatlantic in the summer season in Europe, from May to September, in a 13-day crossing, six days straight at sea, imagine the logistics?

Upon returning from Europe, the ship will make its first season in New York, followed by a cruise to San Juan (Puerto Rico), before returning to Florida and staying in Disney’s new port in Fort Lauderdale, starting November 17, 2023.

The itinerary I’m doing is five days in the Caribbean, including a stop in Castaway Island Disney’s private island reserved for Disney Cruise Line guests on cruises to the Caribbean.

Imagine all the Disney magic on an island with transparent waters, with ice cream machines, barbecue and, of course, drinks for the grown-ups, in addition to numerous activities such as guided trails, kayaking, bicycles, among others.

Taking a Disney cruise is a different kind of vacation where entertainment, adventure, comfort and convenience come together. The place where magic meets the sea.
