Vaccinated and those who have recovered from Covid-19 will be able to regain some of their freedoms from Sunday, which were restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic, after the relevant legislation was approved by the Federal Parliament yesterday and the Federal Council a little while ago. “This is a very important step towards more regularity,” said Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht.
Under the new rules, a fully vaccinated person is considered to have completed the immunization process at least 14 days in advance, while those infected with Covid-19 should have a positive molecular test of 28 days to six months.
For these two categories, the restrictions concerning the gathering and the ban on traffic at night will no longer apply, while there will be no obligation to take a coronavirus test when visiting shops, hairdressers or other places. The same goes for catering businesses, which, however, are still entirely closed. Similarly, these individuals are exempted from quarantine when they return from abroad – with the exception of returning from a country where there is an outbreak of some variant of the main strain of the new coronavirus.
The recovery was made possible, according to the government, following the opinion of the Robert Koch Institute that there was no significant risk of transmission of the virus from those vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19 and having antibodies. However, the obligation to use a protective mask and keep a distance remains valid for everyone.
Speaking to the Bundestag, the Minister of Justice stressed that the rules of the rule of law should apply in times of crisis, but can be limited in order to protect the life and health of citizens and the proper functioning of the health system. “But because, according to scientists at the Robert Koch Institute, the risk of transmission is very small, the reason for the restrictions is now gone,” Ms. Lambrecht added.
The Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and candidate for Chancellor of the Christian Union (CDU / CSU), Armin Lasset, has called on those who regain some of their individual freedoms to “use their fortunes responsibly” and to cultivate ” out of resentment or envy of their fellow citizens who had not yet had the opportunity to be vaccinated. According to Chancellor Angela Merkel, the order of priority for vaccination will be abolished in June.
