The infectologist and professor at Unicamp, Raquel Stucchi, warned about the possible escalation of cases of Covid-19 during the coming winter.
“What we have is to look at our family, friends and co-workers, reinforcing the importance of completing the vaccination cycle and the use of a mask in closed environments is strongly recommended for everyone”, said the member of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases, The CNN Radio .
The infectologist explained that, in closed environments, the use of a mask should be maintained for any age, since, without ventilation because of the cold, they become places of high spread of Covid-19.
Stucchi recalled that the distribution of vaccines is not egalitarian, but that, on average, “this is not the case in South America and Central America”: “People are not guided enough. To face Omicron, the basic regimen is three doses.”
“Covid has not gone away and you have to be up to date with the vaccination so you don’t have a serious illness or reduce this risk”, he added.
The infectologist also drew attention to the difficulty of adherence to vaccination against Covid-19 in some states of Brazil, such as in the North region, which, according to her, is also worrying.
She recalled that “in the very near future we will have second-generation vaccines, with different recipes that should promote a longer protection time, which may change the orientation of annual doses”.
