The city of Rio de Janeiro immunized more than 34 thousand people on the first day of the mega vaccination in Brazil, on Saturday (21). There were 19,570 who received the second dose and 13,287 with the third, the booster dose. During the first day of the task force, Rio still had 1,753 who went to take the first dose.
The joint effort carried out in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo (SP), Manaus (AM), Curitiba (PR), BrasÃlia (DF) and Salvador (BA) is focused on expanding the number of Brazilians with the complete vaccination schedule. Last week, the country still had 100 million people with the delayed scheme.
In the capital of Rio de Janeiro, more than 547 thousand people could already have returned to the posts for the second dose. Of those, who had accelerated immunization, 41 thousand are between 18 and 20 years old and 372,000 are teenagers.
300 million doses
The effort began on the day the country reached the milestone of 300 million doses against Covid-19 applied since the beginning of the immunization campaign and the city of Rio de Janeiro exceeded 12 million.
“It was an important day of mobilization, we need the teenagers to return for the second dose and that they take advantage of the anticipation so that they are protected”, declared the municipal secretary of Health, Daniel Soranz.
Rio de Janeiro chose to follow the interval between the stages determined by the manufacturers, with 12 weeks for AstraZeneca, four for Coronavac and three for Pfizer. The city has 89.4% of the population over 12 years old with the two doses.
Across the country, according to the Ministry of Health, there are 21 million people who can already receive the second dose, 2.9 million of them are between 30 and 34 years old and 2.8 million, between 25 and 29 years old. Another 12 million should go to the posts for the booster dose.
The mega vaccination continues until next Friday (26).
