Vaccination helps reduce symptoms of “long Covid-19”, reinforces infectious disease

In an interview with CNN Radio, the infectologist from Rede D’or, Raquel Muarrek, reinforced that vaccination is important to avoid the so-called “Long Covid”, a condition in which the patient experiences sequelae for weeks, months and even years after being discharged.

“Vaccination is necessary and helps to reduce post-Covid symptoms, there is a better response in recovery for those who have been vaccinated,” he said.

Muarrek explained that several symptoms are part of Covid Longa, depending on “the severity or degree of symptoms presented”, such as respiratory, neurological, intestinal or cardiac origin.

The infectious disease specialist highlighted the importance of people who present any type of symptom – such as persistent headaches, memory loss and tiredness – to seek a doctor.

“Medical follow-up is important, investigation and routine examinations have to be carried out to analyze the real degree of permanence that has been presented”, he added.

The infectologist said that vaccination has already proven to be effective in reducing the number of deaths, serious cases and hospitalizations, but warned: “The rate of transmission will only decrease when we have between 85 and 89% of the total population vaccinated.”

“In Brazil, we have 58% as a whole, we have niches of Covid paintings and transmission is still present”, he said, defending that the masks are still used.
