Vaccination of children over six months is a matter of time, says doctor

According to data from the Observatório de Saúde na Infância, from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), two children under the age of five died a day in Brazil as a result of Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021.

In an interview with CNN this Friday (1st), the pediatrician and professor at the Faculty of Medicine at USP (University of São Paulo), Ana Escobar, spoke about the importance of children over six months of age receiving the vaccine against Covid-19. 19.

According to the doctor, “the vaccine is by far the best form of protection against Covid-19. Children are able to receive this immunizing agent peacefully. We believe it is a matter of time before they start being vaccinated.”

About two weeks ago, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized the use of Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech immunizers for children over six months. In Brazil, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) evaluates the application of the vaccine in this age group.

Ana Escobar warned of misinformation about vaccines and asked parents to “search for knowledge from reliable sources, such as the mainstream media, for example”.

The doctor added that “there is no doubt that the available immunizations are safe. We cannot leave children older than six months without a vaccine.”
