Vaccinations of 12-15 year olds against Covid-19 begin in Italy

THE Italy has received a strong blow from Covid-19, being the most affected European country after the United Kingdom. The neighboring country has now opened the vaccination platform for all age groups over 12 years.

The green light was given by the Italian drug service for the vaccination of adolescents aged 12 to 15, numbering 2.3 million people.

However, each Italian region shall adapt the national directives to the state of the vaccination program and to the level of supply to vaccines.

“This is a good day,” said Napoli Mayor Luigi de Magistris, adding that “it is an excellent milestone both in the fight against the health crisis and in resuming all our activities as soon as possible.”

“We have the potential to further accelerate the vaccination campaign,” Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza told social media, as reported by Agence France-Presse and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

About 12.4 million (out of a population of 60 million) have been fully vaccinated in Italy, 22.85% of the population over the age of 12, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Italy, which has seen a sharp drop in deaths and cases, has given more than 35.8 million doses of the vaccine, mainly the BionTech / Pfizer vaccine, or 90% of the doses delivered.
