Few vaccinations compared to the programs, less than the previous weekend. Over the Easter weekend, the vaccination campaign underwent an unexpected arrest. On Saturday the administrations were 211,650 (they were 235,256 the previous Saturday), less than 100 thousand on Sunday. And yesterday, Easter Monday about 150. In the three days of the holiday, from Saturday to Monday, in total (even if the data are still partial) about 500 thousand doses.

One of the reasons for this decline appears to be there distrust of the Astrazeneca vaccine. According to the latest available data, 96% of Pfizer doses were administered yesterday, but only 54% of Astrazeneca. But the Ministry of Health reiterates that «on March 18, the EMA thoroughly analyzed all the data with the support of experts in thromboembolic diseases. And only at that point did he confirm that the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca, like the others authorized by Ema, it is a safe and effective vaccine. And it is not associated with an increased overall risk of thromboembolic disease in the general population. “

The other reason, as the Regions explain, is the lack of doses. Although the government assures that the vaccines will be provided (8 million will arrive in April) and that, in the regional hubs, there are between 2.3 and 2.9 million vaccines still in the refrigerators. According to government sources, the plans of some regions are still unclear and slow: people over 80 are not vaccinated at home and vaccinations for over 70s have not yet started.

Thus, the planned objectives are still far away. As of April 3, 13 million and 600 thousand doses should have been administered, while as of April 5 the total is 11 million and 215 thousand: approximately two and a half million less. The plan foresaw between 300,000 and 500,000 doses per day. So far, however, the 300,000 doses have not yet been reached, and delays accumulate. As explained to Republic Professor Davide Tosi, a professor at Bocconi, «if you go ahead with these rhythms, you will have a sufficient percentage of vaccinated people only early next year. Not in September ».

According to the plan of Minister Speranza, on 31 March the immunized persons should have been 6 million and 416 thousand. Instead they are only almost 3.5 million, 6.8% of those over 16.
