The children of Val Kilmer still recount details of his battle with throat cancer. “The recovery was as tiring as the disease,” daughter Mercedes said in an interview with Etra magazine. He explained that he is fine, but that he is still working on the recovery and that this whole process is not easy.
Mercedes, 29, co-produced with her brother Jack the documentary bearing the name of her father, Val, presented in Cannes, which tells its story and which will be broadcast by Amazon prime.
“Everyone has given us great support and this excited me a lot. It’s really nice to see all these people together, ”said 26-year-old Jack. The boy worked with his sister on the documentary that traces his father’s career, but also his battle against the disease.
“The whole film is exciting,” he added Mercedes at the presentation in Los Angeles. “Not that I didn’t expect this from my father. He is a very open man whom I know well. I was surprised by the reaction of the public. I’m used to the fact that people don’t understand my father because his public image is very different from his private one. In reality he is a very funny person ».
It feels like yesterday and yet it has been a lifetime. As I write this, my documentary is getting ready to premiere at Festival De Cannes. And as grateful as I am for being selected with this high honor, I look forward most to sharing my life’s story with all of you.

Val Kilmer has a hard time communicating as he can no longer use his voice and he does so to say that he is still in the recovery phase, but he wanted to tell his story more than anything else. “It seems like yesterday, but it’s been a lifetime,” wrote the actor on Twitter.
Giving him the voice in the film is his son Jack. In the trailer he says, “I’ve wanted to tell a story about acting for a long time. About where you end up and the character begins, about truth and illusion. Now that it’s harder, I want to tell my story more than ever».
