Vale reported this Monday (17th) that it has partially and gradually resumed operations in Minas Gerais after interrupting them on January 10th due to heavy rains that hit the region last week.
With safety conditions restored, the mining company restarted activities in the Sudeste System, where the circulation of trains on the Vitória a Minas Railroad (EFVM) was resumed on the Rio Piracicaba-João Monlevade stretch. Thus, the expedition of the production of Brucutu and Mariana are already active.
According to a statement sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), the branch of BH, responsible for the transport of general cargo, is still paralyzed, so the company is studying logistical alternatives for the definitive return.
In the Southern System, some road accesses were resumed and some alternatives were made viable. Sections of MRS Logística had their train circulation released, with new sections expected to be released throughout the week. The Abóboras, Vargem Grande, Fábrica and Viga plants are also already active.
Vale estimates an impact of around 1.5 thousand tons on the production and purchase of iron ore with the stoppages. Despite the effects, the mining company reiterates its iron ore production “guidance” of 320,000 to 335,000 tons for 2022.
