Valentine’s Day below zero, Burian arrives: frost and snow on the plains and on the coasts

Those who had become accustomed to the early spring, in some parts of Italy in recent days must resign. The cold is back and so is the snow. Frost arrives on Valentine’s Day, even a few days earlier. From Friday 12th the weather changes abruptly with regard to temperatures, already from the middle of the week rains and storms.

WEDNESDAY
It snows on the Alps and the Apennines. In Cortina no competition at the World Ski Championships due to bad weather. In Vipiteno the roof of the ice rink in Vipiteno collapsed due to the snow and ice of the past few days.

South Tyrol is experiencing record snowfalls, three times above average. Moderate to heavy rainfall in the North East. Possible storms on lower Lazio, Campania and Calabria. Strong winds of Libeccio and Scirocco.

THURSDAY
It’s a day off with good weather almost everywhere. From the evening the first signs with the arrival of cold winds from Siberia.

THE FROST OF VALENTINE’S DAY
The Burian arrives from the Russian steppes and, starting from Friday, will make its effects felt. The drop in temperatures will be immediate and strong, even 10-15 degrees in a few hours. Saturday 13 a cyclonic vortex will bring a disturbance with snowfalls in the plains and up to the coasts of Tuscany, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata and Campania. In the North there could be steady temperatures around zero even on Saturdays and Sundays.
