Valentine’s Day should move BRL 18 billion, mall shopkeepers project

A survey by the Brazilian Association of Shopping Shopkeepers (Alshop) estimates that Valentine’s Day should move about R$ 18 billion this year. Sales are expected to grow 15% compared to last year, a figure that will not be higher due to high prices and limited consumer budgets.

According to Alshop, the expectation is that 92 million consumers will make purchases by the next 12. The value of the average ticket for the date will be R$ 196, maintaining the average of recent years despite the economic scenario marked by inflation, high dollar and high interest rates.

The date is becoming one of the most important for retail, second only to Christmas and Mother’s Day. To overcome the current economic difficulties, malls and store owners invest in promotions and sweepstakes that encourage customer consumption.

Electronic products such as cell phones, which used to be among the best sellers at the time, lost positions to gifts with lower prices such as those in the clothing, footwear, jewelry, beauty products and floriculture sectors, which should stand out among sales.

The survey also showed that restaurants, hotels and motels, enterprises that tend to have greater movement on the date, will benefit from the relaxation of sanitary measures in the service sector.
