Valve has confirmed that the first batch of Steam Decks will ship to preorders by the end of February. Following the announcement in July 2021, the handheld gaming device experienced delays and did not release in December as planned.
Valve is now announcing the continuation of the Steam Deck Verification Program, which has provided developer kits to some game developers. “Hundreds” were shipped last month, with more plans to ship.
The Steam Deck is a portable gaming computer designed for gamers who access their game library and Nintendo Switch-like portability. The device is powered by an AMD Zen quad-core processor and uses an AMD RDNA 2 architecture GPU with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD storage.
The device has a 7-inch touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and Steam Deck-optimized games have a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The Steam Deck runs Valve’s Steam OS 3.0 based on Arch Linux with support for games developed for Windows.
The base $ 400 version comes with 64GB eMMC flash, the $ 530 version has 256GB NVMe SSD storage. The older version for $ 649 received a 512 GB SSD, as well as premium anti-glare coating.
When you pre-order, you are now queuing up to receive your console after Q2.
