Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz confronted Republican JD Vance during the CBS News debate this Tuesday (1), and asked him directly if he believed Donald Trump lost the 2020 United States election. Senator JD Vance He avoided it and then changed the subject.
“Look, what President Trump said is that there were problems in 2020, and my own belief is that we should fight on these issues, debate these issues, peacefully in the public square,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said. “And that’s all I said, and that’s all Donald Trump said.”
“Remember, he said that on January 6th, protesters were supposed to protest peacefully, and on January 20th, what happened? Joe Biden became the president. Donald Trump has left the White House, and now, of course, unfortunately, we have all the negative policies that came from the Harris/Biden administration,” Vance said.
The Ohio senator then said there was a threat to democracy that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz don’t want to talk about.
“It’s the threat of censorship. It’s Americans setting aside long-time friendships because of disagreements over politics. It’s big tech companies silencing their citizens, and it’s Kamala Harris saying that instead of debating and persuading her American citizens, she would like to censor people who engage in misinformation,” he said.
“I think this is a far greater threat to democracy than anything we’ve seen in this country in the last four years, in the last 40 years,” he added.
Vance ended his response with yet another conciliatory moment toward Walz, telling the governor that the two would shake hands after the debate and offering his help to Walz if he is elected vice president.
Historical debate
The event marks the first and only confirmed debate between JD Vance, Donald Trump’s candidate, and Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ candidate, while polls show a tight scenario in the 2024 race for the White House.
