Vance tells CNN that Trump is “consistent” in his policy stance on abortion

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance told the CNN that Donald Trump believes that states should decide their own policies on the issue of abortion.

He also noted that the former president has been consistent in his stance on Roe vs. Wade, a US Supreme Court decision that guaranteed the right to abortion in all states.

Trump “wants the national government he intends to lead to focus on national issues like inflation, housing costs and an open southern border. He wants states to make their own abortion policies, and that will be his position for the rest of the campaign and presidency,” the Ohio senator said.

Over the past two decades, Trump’s public statements on the subject have changed constantly.

Pressed by John Berman of CNN on the inconsistencies in Trump’s views on abortion, Vance said the former president “wants voters to make these decisions” after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

Vance also commented on how Trump will vote in November on a Florida amendment that would protect women’s right to have an abortion until the fetus is viable. Florida currently bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy.

Trump told NBC News on Thursday (29) that he “aims to vote for the need for more than six weeks.”

In a statement, Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that the former president “has not yet said how he will vote on the Florida ballot initiative, he has simply reiterated that he believes six weeks is too short a time frame.”

Vance repeated the speech, commenting to CNN that Trump “is simply saying he doesn’t like six weeks [como limite]. He’s obviously said he doesn’t like late-term abortion and I think he’s going to make an announcement about what he really wants to do with regard to, in particular, the Florida law.”

Just as Trump outlined on Thursday that he will implement a policy that would pay for fertility treatments in vitro If elected, Vance did not specify exactly how they intend to pay for it.
