Vance: Trump wants NATO defensive expense increase to 5%

Jay Di Vance said President Donald Trump believes that the target of NATO member states for defense spending should increase to 5% of GDP, from the existing 2% threshold. Speaking at an event organized by the Munich Security Conference in Washington, the US Vice -President welcomed Europe’s moves to strengthen its own defense, but stressed that the US defense industries should be able to participate more actively. Reuters reported that in terms of the US-EU trade relationship, Jay Di Vance noted that discussions between the two commercial partners were underway, stressing that Washington is pressing on the European Union to reduce duties and regulatory barriers.
