The wife of the basketball legend Kobe Bryant, who passed away with her thirteen-year-old daughter in a helicopter accident last January 2020, has just declared herself against sneakers made in honor of her husband and little Gigi. The shoes Mambacita in fact, signed Nike – which take the name with which Gianna (Gigi) Bryant was called, referring to the name of her father on the field – according to what is stated by Vanessa Bryant would not have been approved by her for the market launch, as publicly posted on his Instagram account.

The 39-year-old’s comment came after discovering the news about the launch of the commemorative sneakers, not yet official, but leaked in advance on social media.

In the statement on Instagram, the mother of Natalia (18), Bianka (4) and Capri (1) said she had “worked hard” on Mambacita sneakers in black and white, an exclusive color chosen by Vanessa for honor the uniform of Kobe Bryant. The shoes have both the names of Gigi and his father on the back, and are decorated with a gold number, 2, to remember his daughter’s jersey number. So far so good, with the exception of a small but significant detail: the sneakers would not be “approved for sale”. The controversy arises from the fact that, apparently, someone would have already managed to grab a pair of sneakers.

In fact, Vanessa Bryant wrote in the caption of her post: «In the second photo, it seems that someone already has Gigi’s Mambacita shoe. If anyone can share how it is possible that a person bought these shoes, it would be great because my daughters and I don’t have any sneakers ». Kobe Bryant’s wife then specified that the goal of the commemorative shoes was the sale, but with the 100% of the proceeds for the benefit of the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. “I have not signed the Nike contract again and I have decided not to sell these shoes,” he added. “I hope these shoes have not been sold by Nike.” Just a month ago, Vanessa Bryant unveiled an entire fashion collection dedicated to her daughter Gigi, showing how much the will to carry on her and Kobe’s memory is always present. But under certain, reasonable conditions.
