In the last week, the European Union reached 1.5 million cases of Covid-19 in the last week, according to the World Health Organization.
According to the vice president of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases Alexandre Naime, the European situation “alerts about surveillance in the face of greater circulation of the virus.”
In an interview with CNN Radio he highlights that the scenario of increased cases also follows the number of hospitalizations, especially France, Belgium, Italy and Portugal.
“There is a pattern of increase, around 20 to 30%, the scientific community already expected that it would happen, not only because of the arrival of the cold, but due to the new variant that circulates.”
Naime explains that there is a prevalence of BQ 1.1, a variant “much more transmissible than Ômicron.”
Brazil situation
Although she sees a plateau in Brazil, Naime says that the number of deaths, which does not exceed 200 victims per day, but also does not fall below 50, “is not comfortable.”
He highlights that the group of people hospitalized with Covid-19 is mostly people over 75 and immunosuppressed, who have a shorter duration of protection with the vaccine.
To reverse this situation, Alexandre Naime argues that there is access to medicines approved by Anvisa for treatment of the first symptoms, such as monoclonal antibodies, as a matter of urgency.
