Variants, regions and colors: the situation and the upcoming changes

English, Brazilian and South African. These are the three variants of the coronavirus identified in Italy and that the Istituto Superiore di Sanità has been monitoring for several months. There are positive people to these variations in all Italian regions. The most widespread is the English one, which is transmitted more easily and which has led to the closure of four municipalities in Lombardy and several cases in Umbria.

It is now found on almost 90% of the Italian territory not uniformly. However, it is a fact that changes the picture and that could lead many regions to change color with today’s monitoring.

Color changes should be starting on Sunday.

VALLE D’AOSTA
It could be the good news of the day. The region could be the first to enter the white zone, where life could return to normal with the reopening of activities from cinemas to gyms and even skiing would be allowed. The mask and spacing will remain. The region has had less than 50 new infections per 100 thousand inhabitants for three weeks. There are only two hospitalized in intensive care.

TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE
The South African variant is present in four municipalities in South Tyrol: Merano, Rifiano, San Pancrazio and Moso in Passiria. A case only in Trentino, a person with an English variant, with limited symptoms. Both provinces should remain orange zone.

VENETO
Four cases of the English variant were identified at the Cortina Ski World Championships. It’s not about athletes. In Veneto the prevalence of the variant is around 17.7% of the total. There are two cases of the Brazilian variant, isolated, in the province of Padua and Venice. However, the region should remain in the yellow zone.

FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA
The cases of the English variant were 17 out of 267 samples analyzed. In Trieste, in the pediatric field, a variant already present in the USA was found. The region is poised between yellow and orange.

PIEDMONT
At the beginning of February, the percentage of the English variant, on the total number of infections, was between 15 and 20%. They are in line with the national average. This region too is in the balance between yellow and orange.

LOMBARDY
There are 4 municipalities in the red zone: Viggiù, Bollate, Mede and Castrezzato. Here are outbreaks of the English variant. There would also be a Scottish variant, another mutation of the English variant. In Lombardy there are variations in 30% of tampons. The region risks going from the yellow to the orange zone.

LIGURIA
Here, the South African variant was isolated in a 25-year-old patient who returned from abroad. The English variant is in 15% of tampons. The region should remain in the orange zone.

EMILIA ROMAGNA
In the region, the English variant would grow from 28 to 41% of the samples. The outbreaks are in the province of Bologna. The region should go into the orange zone.

MARKET
The English variant is prevalent in the province of Ancona. The borders of this province have been closed for a few days. The Marches also risk the orange zone.

TUSCANY
In the outbreak of a school in Siena there are 13 positive boys, one with the Brazilian variant also found in Chiusi. In the region there are also cases of the English variant, 8.4% of the positives. The region remains in the orange zone.

LAZIO
The municipality of Roccagorga, in the province of Latina, is a red zone. There are cases of the English variant on the border with Umbria, but the spread is increasing. The region is in the yellow zone, but you risk going orange.

UMBRIA
It is one of the regions in greatest difficulty. Variants of the coronavirus are widespread across the country. Of the first 77 samples analyzed, 41 are of the Brazilian variant and 22 of the English one. Already two thirds of the region is ona red with 59% of intensive care places occupied. The whole territory could be the red zone from Sunday.

ABRUZZO
Even in Abruzzo the situation is particularly difficult. 65% of new infections are of the English variant. The provinces of Pescara and Chieti have been closed since February 14 and the whole region risks the red zone. President Marco Marsilio is opposed because the RT has dropped from 1.22 to 1.17.

MOLISE
The English variant is present in the southernmost area of ​​the region. However, the yellow zone should remain.

BASILICATA
There are four cases of the English variant established in the region that should remain the yellow zone.

PUGLIA
The region should remain in the yellow zone.

CAMPANIA
The region has variant cases. From the yellow area it risks moving into the orange one.

CALABRIA
The two cases of positivity to the English variant were identified among the guests of the Cas di Longobardi reception center, in Cosentino. The region should remain in the yellow zone.

SARDINIA
The region should remain in the yellow zone.

SICILY
There are four isolated patients with an English variant at the Garibaldi hospital in Catania. The region should remain in the yellow zone.
