Variation of Korone Virus scans Europe – Fears of new outbreaks

A new variant of the Covid -199 is under surveillance by the World Health Organization (WHO), as its appearance has led to an increase in cases in several parts of the world. The variant, called NB.1.8.1 but is unofficially known as “Nimbus”, was first found in late January and is a descendant of the Omikron subparagraph family. In the spring of 2025, there was an increase in its dominance in Europe, America and the Western Pacific. According to wired, the virus has mutations that may increase its transmissibility and allow it to escape certain antibodies. However, “taking into account the available data, the additional risk to public health associated with NB.1.8.1 is evaluated as a low global level,” says the most recent risk rating for variant.
