Ninety -five pirates and armed robberies against ships in Asia were recorded from January to June this year, an 83% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Intergovernmental Group’s Information Center against Piraeus. Most incidents were recorded in the straits of Malaka and Singapore, which the team describes a concern area. Eighty events were recorded in these waters during the aforementioned period, compared to 21 in the first half of 2024. Most events in the straits of Malaka and Singapore were not serious: no crew member was injured in 90% of cases.
